idea? Is the school reputable? Can a get a good job by going to school online or is it better to go to an accredited college?(The University of Phoenix credit is just as good as the state university or colleges, so I was told by the career counselor from UofPhoenix.)

There is no rating of totally online universities, because these institutions do not participate in any national ranking system. They are for-profit businesses, not like publicly or privately funded colleges and universities. If she MUST take online courses, she should DEFINITELY take them under the auspices of a well-known and REGIONALLY (not nationally) accredited university. Many reputable state universities offer affordable online courses (and even degrees) these days. Please do research before you waste your family's money. Here is a list of regional accreditation associations. If the program you are considering is not accredited by one of these bodies, she should look elsewhere. I love to study:) I have a small business and $ 600k+ invested. I would like to get more involved with financial decisions and tax preperation. I will probably never work in a company as an accountant or adviser. Which degree should I chose from Penn Foster or Ashworth- Finance or Accounting? What are the major differences? Or should I simply go for a cheaper bookeeping certificate? Just so confused. Thanks for your help.

Finance is probably more useful for you. Accounting tends to focus on how to classify information. Finance focuses on how to make inteligent decisions in allocating, borrowing, investing, and utilizing cash and other assets. As a decision maker in a business, finance will help you make better decisions. Of course there is usually a minimal amount of accounting study involved in a finance degree, and these fundamentals should prove somewhat helpful in discussing matters with your book keepers. I would also reccomend that you take a tax-accounting class, something very useful that is usually not taken by finance majors. As for a bookeeping certificate, I wouldn't waste your time.

I have been taking courses online for my BSBA I am considering switching majors to accounting. Has anyone recieved ther accounting degree online? Was the material difficult to understand taking the courses this way? Where did you get your degree from? Did you continue and get your Masters was it online? MAc or MBA? Did you get your CPA? I don't mean to burst your bubble but an online accounting degree is only going to be relevant and worthwhile to you and only you. Employers and grad schools aren't really going to accept that degree as legitimate. And, again, no legitimate Master's degree can be earned online as of this time. Schools that claim to be "accredited" are accredited as distance learning schools, not by their regional accreditation board or relevant professional school accreditation board wherever they're based (and this is what actually counts when it comes to attending an accredited school). You would probably be barred from taking your state's CPA exam since you would not have graduated (or received enough credits in accounting) from an accredited accounting program recognized by your state, professional board, or the regional accreditation board. Now, I could be mistaken and you are attending an accredited school, albeit online. But you'd have to be sure that you're getting a degree issued by the school at the end of it all. If you would put the name of the college/university in the question, it may be helpful. All the accountants I know (and employed people with MBAs) went to a brick-and-mortar college/university. And, not to be pernicious, but I'd trust them over somebody touting a degree from the University of Phoenix or some such place.
