So I am going to NYU Stern school for this year's fall, although i dont know much about finance or business. So i plan to subscribe to Wall Street Journals. I am planning on reading The Economists and such magazines often. 1. Will starting reading WSJ from no base knowledge help me at all? 2. What other source do you recommand for a beginner like me?

Reading the WSJ and the Economist will definitely be helpful in acquainting you with some basic business issues and terminology. You can also contact some business professionals in your family or group of acquaintances to ask important questions you might have. Once you get on campus, my personal recommendation would be to try to get involved in student organizations as soon as you can once your semester begins. Though they seem daunting, they provide an excellent opportunity for business and social networking. Try to commit to one or two; you'll find the results very rewarding. Above all, don't worry about not having a lot of prior knowledge in your field of study. The purpose of college is to give you that essential knowledge. Right now, focus on keeping your grades high and building a basic knowledge of the business world through research and your personal contacts. The rest will follow in due time.

guys, I have a design degree from UCSD and after graduation, I was working as sales for a chinese company in shanghai. (not business related) however, I want to find a finance job now in US and I am really interested in stocks, economy, finance...etc but I never have any related experience, what job can I find or apply to get me into the door? thanks yea, I saw those investor advisor job that requires series 7 and 63, but I wonder what is it those sales job you are paid based only on commision and you have to do a lot of cold calling to get customers? I once had a insurance job for a month like that and I hate it.

Apply for your license - series 7. If you speak Chinese and have experience working within the country . . . any major company would probably love to have you. Investment firms are desperate for people who understand China. P.S. We live in America and are trying to find someone to teach my son Mandarin . . . there isn't anyone.

It's the quarter that comes between the 2nd and 4th. If it's a company with a calendar year end, then it's the period from 7/1 to 9/30

I want to major in international finance & maybe learn a foreign language...but I want to spend this time learning an important one that I will use in the business world. I saw a Time Magazine article that said India was advancing quite quickly...I was also thinking about Chinese...any opinions?

India is a developing country that's gaining influence by virtue of its vast population, which is well over 3 times the size of the U.S. However, India is a country of many languages that inherited the English language from its British colonization days - English remains the common lingua franca in that country and actually helps hold it together. Chinese Mandarin has not yet spread significantly beyond the Chinese border as a common business language spoken broadly, but it's only a matter of time before that changes since, even more than India, growth in the Chinese economy will continue to outpace the rest of the globe. In the western hemisphere, geographically Spanish is the most dominant language. I live in San Diego and have a 3-year old son - I'm going to be advising him to learn both Spanish and Mandarin Chinese (I speak Spanish myself). If you're anticipating being a part of Pacific Rim trade, I'd highly recommend you do the same. You could make yourself highly marketable if you had any technical skill and were fluent in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Good luck.

According to the statistic, some of developing countries are among the polluters in the world. Do you agree that when a country is developing and progresing in business and finance,polution is inevitable and must be accepted as the price a country pays to advance into amodern economy?

Yes. People only begin to care about environment when they feel secure about their own livelyhood, and that typically take couple of well-off generations to achieve. For a crude example, starve yourself for 2 days, then ponder whether spotted owl sounds tasty to you.
