I'm a college student in the city of Chicago. Lately I have had trouble landing a simple retail job in the city despite having spent 2 years in college and 1 job in the past. I'm double- majoring in Psychology and Human Services but I do not plan on continuing my education past the Bachelors level. Will it be hard finding a job with just an undergraduate degree in these two fields? Can I go into business without a degree in something like finance or marketing? I want to work in a corporate/business environment, preferably in downtown Chicago. Is that possible, have people done that?

Yes. A good friend of mine graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology and although her first job out of college was as a bank teller (which doesn't require a degree), about a year later she landed a corporate job with a health insurance company. So yes, it's possible - plenty of psychology students go into the business field. I'm not sure about finance though....that field seems pretty particular, but I could easily be wrong about that. I would suggest you take some business classes while you're still in college - finance, accounting, marketing, for instance, to give you an edge. \ Also, if you've got space in your class schedule for the next two years or if you can get an advisor to help you map out your classes, you might be able to get a business minor. Or, since you're pretty sure you want to go into business, check the classes you'll need for graduation if you change your major to business or double majoring in business and psychology and dropping the human services major. The bank told me to make a business plan, so I did. They didnt even look at my credit till after they had my business plan. So after all the hard work they tell me NO, my credit isnt good enough. Why couldnt they tell me that before I spent money on business plan. The only overhead is the equipment. I showed them that if they gave me the loan I would be making a proffit of almost 90,000 dollars. whats wrong with that?

I would like to start a business- mainly for the environment, an actual trash service where people can use bins to recycle and have seperate containers for cans, grease, plastic, paper, organic. I think this is a very lucrative business- there isnt anything around here other than the recycling place and nobody wants to drive, but if you bring it to them I think they do care. Just imagine if everyone in one city did this. So, I have good credit, am soon to receive my degree. I am a single mom, and I have some great ideas, and would love to put them into action.

Also think about a business website for your (great!) recycling idea that can educate the public as well as earn you income. I'm currently a high school senior and seriously considering my future. I think being able to manage one's money well is an important skill, which is why I'm considering finance. However, I'm not sure it suits me as a person, therefore I'm not sure if I'll be happy with a career in finance. 1. I'm pretty weak in math (as in I made it to A.P. Calculus, but am struggling in it), although I am very good at reading & analyzing data. 2. I love helping people, specifically in directing, guiding, or advising them. I participate in a lot of social/community service groups. I value tact & find it easy to get along with others & make friends. 3. I love planning, organizing, and putting together projects/events. Basically, I'd be most comfortable in administrative work. 4. I'm very interested in Japanese Language & Culture. I intend to become fluent if possible. Any input or advice would be highly appreciated (including other majors to consider, given my personality).

What about something in the field of psychology. Sounds to me like you are a people's person so why not think about that.
