I was wondering what software you would use when it comes to making a business plan, what one would be the best? I have found several different ones but unsure of what one to use. Thanks in advance!

the core of a business plan is your verbal bit ... what are you selling, why will people want to buy from you, and how many people can you reasonably expect to sell to? so this partly about what you are doing, and what people want, and partly about how you will market. when you know how much you think you can sell you can work through how much lead time you have (you have to buy things and pay for them, but the people you are selling to may take time to pay depending on who you are selling to. these fundamentals are then the basis for your numeric analysis of how much capital you need and how the cash flow will work. I dont think any particular soft ware is required . you can do the numbers in excel to save costs. any lender is more interested in whether you have properly thought through what your business is and what your unique selling points are.

I don't recommend using software. This will give you a plan that "mimics" everyone else's out there. When you go to the bank, they are looking to see if you have thought it out. I've been in retail for many years, and have seen hundreds of people, attempt to start their own business. If they don't have a solid Business Plan, they won't get the support that they usually need to be successfully. Contact your local SBA (Small Business Administration), and ask for their guidance. Do you already have a contact at your local bank? If not, then develop one NOW!! They have access to an amazing amount of resources to help make you more successful, (and thereby ensuring that they get their money back.) I wish you all of the success. From what I understand, the restaurant business is one of the hardest business's to break into. Good Luck!!

We want to do our business plan. What is the best value business software out there? Can you buy used like say 1 year old or 2 years old and not really miss anything or is it critical to have somethin current (2007)? Thanks!

There are sites that offer free software, even, for construction a business plan. Such programs are included with most any accounting software, but frankly, you don't need them at all. All you need is a simple spread sheet and an idea as to how your business is going to run. Write it down. I think if you check the Excel website you can probably find a template for a business plan right there. No, if you use software it does not have to be a current version of a program. The structure of business plans hasn't changed in centuries.
