I'm trying to get my resume and cover letter together. I have a nice resume but I'm having trouble with cover letter. I'm not addressing it to anyone. I signed up for an internship program that companies are able to upload my resume and cover letter. How do I make a cover letter suitable for these companies that I have no information to?

The address line of a general purpose cover letter may be -exactly as shown - either: TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: or Dear Sirs, (Old fashioned and sexist) or Dear Sir or Madam, (funny sounding, but common, and not as blunt as "to whom") You didn't ask for it, but I have included a template for a cover letter that has been really helpful to my kids. It makes you laugh, and also shows you just what you ought to say. If you do not know who to say it to, I would use the TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: one and just leave out the company/name for addressee --------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- (tabbed to the center - which you can't do on yahoo answers:) YOUR NAME ADDRESS ADDRESS YOUR PHONE YOUR CELL EMAIL DATE (left justified, just like it looks) Company PERSON Address Dear Mr/Ms whatchername: Please consider me for the position of GAMEKEEPER at the CITY ZOO listed/advertised in THE GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS. I'm trying to get some things published, but so far it has not worked out for me. I don't think it is a question of talent-but for some reason, I'm not getting any closer to my goals. I have never written a cover letter before, and I was wondering if that was the problem. Should I always send one to magazines or publishing companies-even if they don't specifically ask for it?

What type of work are you trying to publish? If it is a book or novel, each agent is different on what they prefer to see. The Writer's Market (Online, or in the library) provides all of the information you need. Don't give up! It only takes one person to believe in you. Good luck!

I'm going to college in September so I've been looking for just a part time job to make some extra cash. I'm just applying for jobs in stores really - you know Starbucks, clothes stores, things like that. Is it necessary to write a cover letter for jobs like this? I've got a Starbucks application form and I'm debating on whether or not to write a cover letter with it.

You need to attach your cover letter and resume. For the cover letter:it is in three parts..make it not too long. first part: talk about you Second part: what caught your attention for the job Third part:the contribution you could give for this job. Question; what is your current job? and the one you' re applying?
