I use to live in michigan 18 years ago. We moved to california and now that I have children we are thinking to move back to Michigan. Yes I know Michigan isn't what it use to be but it is a better place to raise a family then California. I own a Retail Jewelry store in California. Does anyone know how the jewelry stores are doing in Michigan? Especially with gold prices so high. Is the slow economy effecting jewelry sales? Should I look for another business? Any suggesstions? Thanks.

the slow economy here is affecting everything; restaurants, stores, housing, activities. i wouldn't suggest coming here to start a business especially in retail. i guess if you went to one of the wealthier suburbs you could possibly make it work but it is a very risky time to start a business here!

I want to start a small vintage shop but am a little in the dark on the legal aspects of business taxes, sales tax, hiring employees, etc. I want to make sure I do all the paperwork, so to speak. I know how to register my business as a sole proprietorship, but thats about it. Any info/resources would be appreciated.

I want to start something of my own based in the U.S preferabely start with a sustainable income Gas station & Convenient store business. I have worked on a Gas station for two years now and I am confident that hardwork is key to start and run a setup. My concern is that I am on a J-2 visa here and my credit is 7 years old. I have saved some money for the downpayment but i am not sure if the banks will be willing to give me a business loan. Do i have to involve a U.S citizen to co-sign with me? what other options do I have? How much money should I have to start a such a business in Michigan/Chicago/Indiana area. I know the value of the the Gas station & Convenient store depends on its sale and location but lets say for a business that generates 10-15k profits a month. Any advise/suggestion?

these days gas stations dont make any money just a few cents per gallon of gas sold. so you will need a store there for sure. I would sugest a bigger space for parking otherwise tehy will just buy gas and leave. see if you can find sponsors to make your gas station well lite and presentable. Use a name brand station, not a cheapo brand. be competitive. dont jsut match the staions price down the block, make it a few cents cheaper, they will come and then they will pay for the over price stuff in the store ; )

Private Armys and 3rd world nations have a hard time getting armored vehicles etc. It seems like a perfect industry for Michigan. Especially with the sales staff available in Dearborn.

You do realize that there are already several armored vehicle manufacturers in Michigan. The market is pretty saturated.
