Both for leasing a space AND selling it. For example: Say I am a broker and lease an office space for 3 yrs, it is 2000 sqm and is £30 per sqm. Would I get commision say 2% on the first month only? or three years? or 36 months?

10% is the standard commission, both leasing and selling.

I am graduating next year and want to pursue a career in commercial real estate. Do companies especially the big ones CBRE and Colliers hire brokers right out of college? Is it hard for new unexperience brokers to sucede, I know it takes time, but is this a field most change jobs into after making connections.

I worked in both a commercial and residential real estate offices, each for around 5 years, in a support position. I will say that in both places, there wasn't much turn over. Not many "new brokers" that came on at either place. They were all VERY competitive! Good luck to you! As a P.S. to your question... I'm a college student in Hawaii who wants to become a commercial real estate broker.. I don;t know if i should stay in honolulu or head back to the mainland where i am from.. Would I find it easier to break into the business in a major city in California? With a college degree in finance and a desire to succede what are my chances for success in this industry? Also what are some other careers in commercial real estate? Thanks

Hi here's my opinion on where commercial real estate will be booming. 1. Austin,Houston,Dallas, Texas 2. Jacksonville,Panama City,Florida 3. Las Vegas,Nevada You need to be near major cities like these that I feel haven't peaked yet, especially in texas and florida. I would steer clear of California, too over priced. If I were you I'd also consider investment banking in NYcity, some of these guys make $250,000 just in bonuses. Best of luck man.

Agent works for a broker and has less requirements to get licensed. A broker can do anything real estate related, including loans in California and commercial real estate. As to which is better, it depends on you and what you like. Checkout this website: http://www.retrainers.com/ Regards

Yes, they do. I am more in a supportive role in a major commercial real estate firm for a team that sells shopping centers. I have been doing this for 12 years now. I do have my real estate license and all of that, but have not moved up to a sales postion because of the time it takes. At our company it is very similar to a law firm. Like in a law firm when you are an associate you are there until 8 every night and on weekends, you practically pee in your trash can, and you live on fruit roll ups the secretaries throw at you. Then once you make partner, you hand down all of the delegatable work to the associates, and you go to Bermuda for 3 weeks. The bottom line is yes, good money. yes, they work a lot. But by the time you are 40 the worst part of it is over and you should be set if you do it right. Bottom line is it is not a get rich quick career.
