I am the newly appointed office manager for an electric co. I have to look up new electrical bids for commercial properties in and arround San Antonio,TX I just have no idea where to start my search at or where to look. I thought if i searched the web i could find some leads but most of the things posted are old and out dated.

I am interested in purchasing commercial property in a specific neighborhood in Dallas. How do I go about finding out which areas are zoned for commercial development and what kind of commercial development is permitted? (For instance - restaurant/bars). I have been warned about expressing interest in a specific location too early as it creates "buzz" which can lead increased cost and even losing the deal. Also, is there a database for ranking commercial Realtors? (For instance, you can look up the history of lawyers and see their rank and past indiscretions.)

The city of Dallas will have a property map showing the zoning for all properties in the city. You can give them a particular address and they will give you the zoning guidelines for that property. The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) has a website with all the REALTORS and if they have been the subject of any indiscretions. They won't have any public listing of income ranking etc. because that is against privacy laws.

I am a very organized person, and enjoy organzing things. I was considering starting a small organizing company (freelance)/Be a professional organizer. Not for my fulltime business yet, but start it parttime and see where it leads. Has anyone done anything similar? What were your outcomes? Positive results/Negative results? This is an awesome business. Especially when organizing is your passion. I am a professional organizer & can't say enough 'good' things about my business. Doing marketing research is a major contributor to getting started. Marcia Gracia has an excellent book dedicated to starting your own organizing business. Titled The Ultimate Guide for Professional Organizers. {everything you need to know about starting, running, and growing your Professional Organizing Business}. The book is well worth the investment & takes you through all aspects of the profession. You can refer back to it forever! {this is not a paid advertisement!!} Another suggestion is, organize friend's or family. Get a 'real' feel for the business. My web site turned out to be my second best investment. Until you start getting referrals from satisfied customers, in my opinion it's a must. Do online research on other organizers. Look at their web sites & see what they offer. Call a few in your area. There are great organizations to join, as well. Run an ad. Do marketing every single day! Read everything you can find on starting a small business. These articles really help with 'not' making major costly mistakes. Some of us are born with this talent. Given that the haunted house market is a once-a-year phenomenon, you'd be hard-pressed to make that work as an ongoing concern. If you're serious about it, look for a building that is underused in October... say, a warehouse that will be low in inventory at that time, a gift basket company that does its business around the holidays/Valentines/June weddings, or something else inversely seasonal. I don't know of a book for such a specialized business, but good luck in your search.
