There are no crystal balls, no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and there is no one indicator that will make you a success. You would do well to forget trying to "predict" anything, and concentrate instead on what to do when price hits certain Support and Resistance areas, or retracement levels, and define the trend instead. You can very well define "targets," but this is not a prediction. Instead of concentrating on how much money you're going to make with your sci-fi predictions, concentrate instead on risk, and you may just stay in the game long enough to learn something. All leading daily local newspapers carry the rates of commodities in the major markets of the state/city under business/finance/markets section. Refer to those news items. Besides quite a few local TV channels telecast these rates for each trading day. Check the channels and their time of telecast of such rates.

what website can i go to to see the settle price of gold on a certain day such as July 20th or July 27th? i've tried searching for it but all i get is charts or graphs that are really confusing.

Look into a good business newspaper like Wall Street Journal. You should be able to find it in a good public library. Alternatively find from the Internet a broker dealing in gold and ask him nicely to look it up in his records.

Most commodities are traded on futures markets. Commodities contracts that trade on futures markets have a delivery date. So, for example, on March 15 2002, there were several contracts trading for Sugar #11 on NYBOT (ie May 2002, July 2002, Oct 2002, Jan 2003, March 2003, May 2003, etc.) Typically the front month (ie May 2002) is used for pricing since it is the nearest delivery - but not always. To get a comprehensive set of data for what you seek, it's multiple megabytes of data. The best people to obtain this data from is dedicated end-of-day data vendors (we provide such data - see the source below). Also see the link below on futures contracts too. Hope that helps.
