Don't know what kind of counselor would be available but you can resolve your credit card problems yourself. First, stop charging on them. Second, Squeeze as much out of your budget and put it on the highest interest rate card, while paying the minimum on the rest. When the highest card is paid off, move to the next.

We are seeking a non profit credit counselor to help us figure out how to eliminate debt. Has anyone ever dealt with this organization? What was your experience like? Just curious..

What totally sucked was the fact that after college I had so much credit card debt that piled up and it was really affecting my credit score. I searched around and tried a few of those debt consolidation sites but found that nothing that I tried really worked. I found this kick ass site that helped me alleviate these problems and I want to share it with you. A co worker of mine said that she had several thousand dollars in debt and she said she is only paying a fraction. Sounds too good to be true.... and.. she said that it was free from the state of california..

Yes ... this does happen. There are a lot of variables though. How much do you owe? Does the creditor think you can make the payments as they are or will you default? I have a friend that did this through Credit Management. The good thing is.... the interest is cut. If you have several debts, the management company combines and negotiates them and you make one payment per month. You cannot incurr any new debt however. Ultimatley you pay a lot less. And the monthly payments are much easier to manage. Usually the management fee is part of the monthly payment and you pay a small setup fee at the beginning. There are some bad people out there though. Be careful who you deal with. Hope this helped

I went to a place called consumer credit counseling... they are with the bbb so I trusted them it helped me b/c all my bills were in collections and they were able to deal with my creditors and give me a reasonable payment until I was able to pay the debt off. cccservices.com

I'm not talking about consolidation companies. I'm talking about the people who investigate your report and look for discrepancies and what not. I mean do they typically work as far as raising your score? what do they cost?

Beware of companies that promise to help you re-establish your credit for a fee. Their ability to change the information that appears in your credit file is no different than anyone else! Only your creditors are able to alter this information. Therefore you do not need to pay a third party to obtain, discuss, review or make changes to your credit report. You have the right to access your information and make changes to your file if there is an inaccuracy or if you want to include a comment.
