I hate to fill in a form with private info at a site I've never heard of.

annualcreditreport.com is the ONLY authorized online source for you to get a free credit report under federal law. You can get a free report from each of the three national credit reporting companies every 12 months. Some other sites claim to offer "free" credit reports, but may charge you for another product if you accept a "free" report.

Was I suppose to get the at a seperately? If so, is it too late to go and get if for free? I just went through the whole process not even an hour ago. Somone help! I am so confused I wanted my score. Got my score from Myfico. Thanks everyone! I am not happy about my score, but I am glad that I got it finally!

No, annualcreditreport.com only gives free credit report, not the credit score. For the credit score, you have to order it from the individual credit reporting agencies for a fee or to MyFico.com http://www.myfico.com/

Due to a possible compromise of personal information, I placed a security freeze on my credit file at all three bureaus several months ago. I recently went to www.annualcreditreport.com to request my free annual disclosure from Equifax and this is what has ensued: 1. Requested Equifax free annual report using the telephone "touch tone" ordering option. Instead of my report, I received a form letter from Equifax telling me that I had to submit the request in writing to a specific Equifax P.O. box in Atlanta and include my security freeze PIN number. I did so. 3. Instead of my free annual report, I then receive another Equifax letter asking me to resubmit my request to a different P.O. box and include documentation of identity and address (driver license, utility bill, etc.). I did so. 4. Now I received ANOTHER Equifax letter telling me that they received my annual disclosure request but I need to resubmit it via annualcreditreport.com - which is where I started out. Does anyone know how to awaken Equifax out of this circular loop?

Sounds familiar. Call them and ask for a supervisor otherwise you may end up talking with someone in India. Maybe a real live person can help you out. Some idiots put the info into a computer and the computer is only as smart as the idiot who programed it. cp

shows directly on the form but they say it is encrypted - does that encryption happen upon transmission? I did not submit it because my SS# was right before me and again wasn't sure what/when the encryption takes place. If I download a request form, fill it out and mail it, I worry that it could fall into the wrong hands in transit with all my information right smack in front of whomever is dishonest enough to intercept it. Then there's the Automated Phone Service for requests that will result in receiving the reports in the mail in 2-4 weeks. Please help me with your advice. I was hoping I could do this through my bank where I know for sure their online security is more sophisticated, but they say they can only do that if I am involved in a mortgage or other business transaction with the bank. HELP?! Thanks in advice for anyone's professional guidance. So far helpful answers, but I also had asked if it was normal to see my SS# stay visible on form until I finish filling out all my information? In other words, YES or NO, does my SS# get encrypted upon transmission?? Thanks again !!

Go to annualcreditreport.com. They need your SS# in order to identify you and make sure you get the right report. As for having it sent through the mail, I'm not a big fan of that because sometimes the credit bureaus transpose your old addresses and your current one, and your report ends up being sent to an old address. That happened to me, and it's not a good feeling knowing some stranger has your credit report. Online is your best bet... it's safer and faster. Once you get your report online, print it out and then save it as a PDF (usually an option in your print menu) so you have an electronic copy.
