Q #1: is it safe to get my credit report online...like through experian, tra
|
|
Is there anything I need to watch out for?
Best Answer
All 3 gave me my credit report on line. The report is free, but if you want your credit score you have to pay.
Remember, you can check your credit report free one a year.
So if you see something not right, write down the info then.
You can't return to the report for free until a year later.

Q #2: credit report company and job background checks?
|
|
i want to check my credit report online. equifax won't change outdated information i requested long ago. which is more accurate for me to try? isn't there some type of 'free check' offer that you can't really trust with hidden condition?
how was your credit report experience? did they really cover your current/updated/accurate info?
if not, that'd mean false info maybe reported to whoever trying to get my credit review (bank, background check)
also when you apply for some jobs, they want to background check you, right? i mean, what do they do? what are you looking for?
..meant to say, what are they looking for (the company that requires background check)
Best Answer
Ellie,
You are allowed to get a copy of a free credit report once a year. Go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com and order it.
Then examine it carefully for any errors. Follow the procedures that came with your report and dispute all inaccurate info.
If they fail to correct any of the information, they are in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and you can sue them for damages and penalties.
Note that a there was an audit done by the FTC to get an idea of how much inaccurate information was on credit reports, and they failed miserably. A huge amount of incorrect data is likely on your report.
I check mine every year.....in just one year I found 5 errors.

Q #3: What happens, after 7 years, if your credit card debt has been charged
|
|
I have old credit card debt! I haven't paid in 7 years.-And nobody contacts me anymore.I am not proud of it, and realize I need to do something about it. I got a credit report online from Equifax. It showed no debt. Just one card that was in good standing. What's up with that? I was hoping to get the names of the card I owe to try to clear up some of the debt.Surely the debt doesn't go away!Should or Can I just try to rebuild my credit? What do I do?
I am certain that the statue of limitations in my state is 7 years. But certainly, if I try to get a loan, this bad credt will show up? It surely doesn't just dissappear? Right?
Best Answer
Peter is wrong. Your credit report begins on the day of the default, not the date of last activity. It's clearly stated in the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and policy statements from the Federal Trade Commissioners. If anyone wishes to state otherwise I would greatly appreciate that they supply me with their information source.
Your credit score is based on what is currently in your credit report. If you don't see any negative reports, then your credit score should be pretty good now, and there is no need for you to do anything.
About the Statute of Limitations (SOL), that is the time that the creditor can legally sue you. After that date, you have no legal obligation to pay. However, they can still pursue you for payments. They just don't have any legal way to collect if you don't want to pay them.
Do not feel bad about not paying them. For the past 7 years they screwed up your credit history, made it hard for you to get a loan, or in some cases caused you to pay more in insurance fees. In other words, you paid your debt!
By the way, check all three of your reports, not just Equifax. Go to the link below and order a free copy of each.

Q #4: Question about Chexsystems credit report for debit cards?
|
|
These credit report are for debit cards. I tried to open an account at a credit union and they turned me down I apparently owed $300 to Wells Fargo but I have not had an account ever with them and I just turned 18 so there is no way that I could have had an account with them under my name alone. How long do the credit reports from Chexsystems usually take to get to your house after you submit the application? There isn't any way to see whats on the report online. My credit reports from equifax, transunion, and experian do not have it on them so I can't dispute it with them right away.
Best Answer
Chexsystems will not appear on your credit report --- but if your account was sent to an collections agency then it may appear on your report....I say may because I was supposedly reported to Chexsystems by WaMu AND I was sent to collections but the collection agency never appeared on my report nor was I reported to Chexsystems...so there is slim chance you may slip thru the system cracks!!
You ordered a Chexsystems report so expect that in 7-10 business days...so basically 2 weeks, and no sorry to say there isn't a way to see the report online for Chexsystems...
You say the account is not yours??? If so, you can dispute the information contained in the report...on the last page they'll supply you with telephone numbers for people who feel the info is incorrect, fraud, etc --- call the number(s) and they'll be able to get a dispute started for you!!
I have personally been thru this situation and at 18 I found at that at 13 I had 3 checking accounts --- so I feel your pain and frustration....
I hope I've helped

Q #5: I tried getting a credit report online but I didn't pass their securit
|
|
Yesterday I tried getting my boyfriends credit report, he was right next to me, through Experian. When it came time to view the report, they asked a few questions to verify his identity. The problem is the questions had to do with a new car that was purchased and a mortgage. He has neither one and because he checked "none of the above" it came back that they couldn't verify his identity. My question is what should he do now? Obviously there are some things on his report that do not belong there. He has never had a credit card, the most he has had on his report is hospital bills and now all of the sudden he has all this stuff. I am thinking maybe since him and his father have the same name that somehow it was a mixed up. Does anyone have any idea on what we should do from here? I can't even get his report online, I have tried all 3 agencies, Experian, Equifax, and Transunion and they ALL have the same security questions with the car and mortgage
Best Answer
He should request his credit reports by mail. The credit bureaus' websites have instructions on how to do that or you can call them for instructions.

Q #6: Credit report Question????Is this Fraud??
|
|
My brother in law was trying to get his credit report online from transunion but it won't let him. We did a seach on his name threw zabasearch and type his name in and it brings up an address in another town (which is his parents address) we type his SS# in and it gave us one address in the town of his parents. His fathers name is the same but different middle Inital, BIL has never live at this address, recieved one credit report from equifax and also has there address, why would this be? would someone have to be using his SS# at this address of his parents?
Best Answer
My credit report shows various previous addresses. One is with my parents, since for a short while, a long time ago, I lived there.
You need to focus on the credit report, and if there are inaccurate addresses, I would write to them and tell them that you never lived there. Is the current address correct? That is most important. Are there credit cards on the list or credit accounts that you are not award of? If so, they need to be addressed right away.

Q #7: I can't access my credit report thru Equifax!?
|
|
I've been trying to access my credit report through Equifax, but each time I try online it won't let me, so I tried mailing in which didn't work either. A friend of mine who works as a broker managed to pull a copy of the 3 combined which had a load of misinformation on it which she suspects is the reason they won't allow me access (different birthday and address). I even tried the FTC but they haven't done anything and told me to place a fraud alert, which I did with Transunion, and they would then have to send me reports which hasn't happened. That was over a month ago.How can I get my credit report from Equifax when I have no access to it or even a contact number for them that isn't automated?
Best Answer
Try this:
By law they MUST supply you with a free annual credit report.
Send each of the three agencies (get the address at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/order?
mail )
Send it by certified mail, return receipt.
Include a copy of your driver's license, social security card, and a copy of a utility bill with your name and address on it. This will establish enough proof that you are the person listed on the report.
Include a letter explaining your difficulty in getting the report. Remind them that the Fair and Accurate Credit Reporting Act requires that they supply you a free copy upon request, and their failure could result in legal action. Include your contact info including telephone number.
If this still does not result in a copy of your report, pretend you just won the lottery. You will easily win a small claims suit for $1000 for their violation.
I would use this method instead of calling. You would first have to go through a phone maze at each of the credit reporting agencies, which is silly.

Q #8: Can the creditor or collection agency remove a collection account from
|
|
I graduated and began a new job. I went to India for 6 months. While i was away, I recieved a hospital bill. When I returned, I discovered it had been sent to collections. I called the hospital and paid the bill. I moved across the country (east to west coast). I called the collection agency verify that it had been marked as paid. I now have one collection account on my credit report marked as paid. I have been turned down for certain benefits because of this recent collection account being on my credit report. I tried filing a dispute online w/ equifax (the CRA reporting the collection account). Because of my recent changes in address, the online/phone methods fail to verify me, so i cannot order my credit report. Now I am supposed to mail in several pieces of POA to validate my new address. Before i do this, is it possible for the creditor or the collection agency to remove the account from my record? If so, i'd like to try it b/c at least i can talk to someone.
I am only 22 years old w/ little but good credit history. I have one credit card (revolving credit since 2005) that i use frequently and pay off. I have almost no debt. Would the creditor/collection agency consider any combination of the following:
- It was a medical bill for $108- i thought my insurance (from university or my company) would have covered it.
- the hospital visit was Employment related and reimbursable by my company. Had I been given the bill right away, I would've paid it.
- I was overseas and never recieved the bill (old address)
- I mailed payment and it was lost in International mail
- I'm just a kid!! I made a mistake. please give me a break!
What's my best option? If I have to call Equifax, what's the best number to call (preferrably to speak w/ a human)?
I know i've posted a similar question and this one is very long. Thanks for reading and helping out a young guy trying to get his life in order!
Best Answer
With medical accounts, you have rights under HIPAA.
If you had paid the collection agency, your HIPAA rights would have been waived.
Since you had paid the medical provider, the medical provider should recall the account from the collection agency and should inform the collection agency to delete everything in their files concerning the account and to remove it from your reports.
The medical provider cannot remove the collection agency's trade line themselves, but they can make the collection agency remove it.
Contact the medical provider and discuss the issue with them.
