yes there is not if ands or buts it must come off if creditor has not reponded in 30 days. and if it does not you can sue the credit reporting agency. send them a certified letter stateing that they have 7 days to remove or they may be sued. that way you gave them warning.

A friend says that disputing errors on your credit report online is LESS effective than mailing a letter to the bureaus. Is this true?

Very simple answer to this question: Yes! Put everything in writng when doing any type of business with anyone. And, also keep a copy and date mailed. Good habit to get into.

First of all, obtain a credit report from all three bureaus and what is being reported by each. Everyone is allowed one free credit report from each bureau per year. Go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com to get those reports. Once you have obtained your reports, review them and make notes on any suspected errors you see. After that you can either call each bureau, write each bureau or even file disputes on-line with each bureau. Each report should have the information needed such as an address and phone number to call to file disputes. Once your dispute is filed, it may take up to 30-45 days to see results. I have included the links on the "Know your source" area. The one for the FTC is a document regarding the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Print it out and read it thoroughly. It explains what can be reported, how it can be reported, for how long it can be reported etc. Don't bother with Credit Repair companies. They are pricey and you can do this yourself for free!

My husband and I recently obtained our credit reports. Much to our dismay, there are several accounts on his report that are either errors or were charged by his ex-wife without his knowledge. I need to know if anyone has a good dispute letter or a link to a site that provides a draft that will get some results. We are not sure how much damage she has done since she had access to his social security number and other personal information. Has anyone ever had success with disputing these sort of things?
