Credit Dispute I viewed my credit report online and there is a negative item listed. My question is ..Can I dispute an negative item that is marked paid, closed on my credit report? Did I make the mistake of not disputing it first before paying the collection agency? Is there a small chance by any reason that I could get the item removed from my credit report by disputing it at this point?

BDancer is incorrect (part of me wonders if she is a collection agent) because, as OC said, you CAN dispute ANY listing on your report. Also, the reporting period is only 7 years, not 7.5. You have a couple steps you can take as well as disputing the listing with the credit bureaus, like OC like mentioned. - You can send a demand to validate letter to the collection agency. Usually they will just delete the listing and not bother. - You can send a "goodwill letter" to the collection agency asking them to remove the listing.

A friend says that disputing errors on your credit report online is LESS effective than mailing a letter to the bureaus. Is this true?

Very simple answer to this question: Yes! Put everything in writng when doing any type of business with anyone. And, also keep a copy and date mailed. Good habit to get into.

I ordered all 3 of them through them on the phone, will all 3 still come with dispute forms so I can dispute inquries? Like you can online? Or am I going to have to send a letter to all the companies with the order numer and dispute through them? Or should I do both, my online credit report which I paid 30 bucks for and only got two reports say I have 8 inquries that were used to determine my score over the last 6 months, but there were I counted 28 of them. Some of these I did make, but some of them are on there twice from the same company, some of them are from the same day, I was under the impression that auto loans and such made within two weeks of each other counts as one.

I had credit pulled by a mortgage company and noticed errors. I want to dispute but I don;t want a credit report from the companies (I mean, I already have one, why the overkill) do I HAVE to have one by them to dispute online? If I want to dispute by mail, do I have to use the form from Transunion since I do not have a credit report by them. Also, what is the mailing address for Experian?

You can write a blanket letter with your disputes. Include your name, soc. sec. #, date of birth, sign the letter and put the account numbers you are disputing and why. The credit bureaus will investigate and send you a letter back about the status of their investigation. They will not remove accurate information even if you don't agree with it. Your real beef is with the original creditor, not the credit bureaus. You should be contacting the original creditors as well as the credit bureaus.

Absoluetly free. The Credit bureaus have to give you by law your credit report once a year. Try this one, but be aware you should have enough paper to print your 3 reports, you will go one by one, just follow the instructions, once you leave one of them you can't go back. BUT IS STILL COMPLETLY FREE!!!!!!
