How To Dispute Items On Your Credit Report

I was told that while you dispute items on your credit report, that the items come off the credit report until they have verified them or when the 30 days have passed. I have only seen that they remove items after the investigation period.

It depends if anyone bothers to report it to the major credit reference agencies. Often you will have to force the person who made the mistake to do this, once you have proven they are wrong.

I disputed some items on my credit report to experian. Do I have to contact the other two credit reporting agencies to dispute the same items?

Absolutely; it may or may not have made it onto the other bureaus, but it would eventually; the info source may have already reported the incorrect data to the other two bureaus......whenever you address something on one, always address all three just to be safe.

To be successful, I'd like to not leave anything out when I communicate with them? Anyone know of any forms I can use to dispute debts with creditors? Or forms to settle the debt for less?

I have been unable to get anyone on the phone at the Campus Partners via the number they give at 800-344-8609 and cannot seem to find the right directory for filing disputes in their automated response system. I have already initiated a dispute via Experian's credit expert. Please help me find out how to get a live person on the phone with Campus Partners. I've also already tried pressing 0 and # and * all the usual keys that indicate "operator" in similar systems. One issue I am having is getting a live person on the phone. I have no idea how to get a live person from Campus Partners on the phone. Their automated response system will not let me get to an operator or any person. As a result I cannot ask them any questions or collect necessary information to file a complaint with the BBB.

Contact the credit reporting agencies and ask this same question. It sounds like you have done what you need to do to get through to Campus Partners and they are not responding, which is a red light to many of us not to get involved with them while we are in college. You can file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau also. Have you tried that? Make sure you have all your documentation on when you called Campus Partners, where you left the voice message, who you talked to (and I always say be as thorough as you can on getting who, what, when you talked to these companies because it will make a difference if you have to file a complaint). Good luck with this.

I am about to graduate from college and I would really like to improve my horrible credit score (541), all of which come from charged off credit cards when I first started college :-( A friend of mine found this guy who she says repaired her credit for about $500 by disputing negative items on her report and getting them removed, which made it alot easier for her to get a new car, and soon she will by buying a house. Should I go to this guy?? Does that stuff really work?? I would like to do it myself, but I wouldn't even know where to start and I would not have the time, especially with work and school... Most of the items on my report are 2-3 years old... I need advice!! Please help me improve from a 541...

you can do the sdame thing yourself.all it will cost you will be cost of return receipt registered mail.and it dont neccessarily raise your score.go to www.annualcreditreport.com,get copies of your credit reports and it also tells how to dispute items on there.

When I lived in Florida I tried to get DSL in my apt. I contacted Verizon to get eveything set up and they mailed me everything. I found out that the phone jack in my place was not wired at all, so I called them to cancel it. A little over a year later, a collections agency contacted my parents looking for me. I contacted them and found out what the issue was. Apparently Verizon had charged my for the little time I had the modem and service. Once I found out about the charge I immediately paid it. A couple of weeks later my credit score drops 100 pts. After a year they finally put 2 derogatory items on my report. Is there anyway to dispute this and get it off of my report. It took them a year to contact me and when they did, it only took me a few minutes to get it paid. The rest of my report is spotless, does this not count for anything?

You can dispute anything on your report and it's their responsibility to prove that you owe it not yours to prove that you do not. The catch is if the information is accurate it will not be removed. Sometimes the credit bureaus get lazy and things slip past the 30 days and get removed anyway.

I know that there is a certain format that you can use to clear up your credit, and there are a lot of people who charges to do that! I need a form or specifics instructions on how to clean my credit up quick!

OK, now would you like some useful information instead of all these negative answers? Take a look at the link below. These folks came up with an outstanding flowchart that gives you the steps to take in cleaning up your credit. But note that if the creditor does everything they are supposed to do, the report will not be deleted. You are counting on the fact they they either lost your paperwork and can't validate the debt, or that they ignore the investigation request from the credit bureau. In many cases you can get negative information deleted from your credit report.

If you owe it- you owe it. How can these companies "legally" repair your credit?? I am confused?? i went to a site that says they send dispute letters...How can you dispute an account you owe?? How does this work?
