Question #1: Orchard Bank Credit Cards: Credit Limit increase?
|
|
I have a Orchard Bank credit card and I would like my credit limit increased. They say that they occasionally do credit account reviews and if all is well they increase your limit. Does anyone out there know when those "periodic" reviews are? Does anyone know how much they typically increase the limit by? Thank you
Best Answer
Don't hold your breath. I used to have a Platinum Elite MasterCard with a $300.00 credit line and no annual fee and they fed me up with that same story.
During the miserable 13-months I had that infernal card, they NEVER increase my credit line even after several requests and they never will, it doesn't matter how perfect your credit reports are.
Orchard Bank is a predatory lender. If you threaten to close the account if they do not increase your credit, they will rather close the account than give you a credit line increase.

Question #2: Are Credit Union Debit cards credit cards too?
|
|
I opened a checking and savings account today at a credit union and was denied a debit card for my checkings account because of my credit.
How can they do that, it's my own money? My bank didn't do that.
Im wondering that at credit unions that your debit card is also a credit card? I think it said visa checkings.
Thats not what i asked, I asked are credit union debit cards also credit cards, meaning can you charge credit with them. Otherwise how can i be turned down for a debit card?
Best Answer
No credit unions debit cards are not credit cards.
I agree it is stupid, it is your own money. I would advise you to find another bank that does not do credit checks for checking or a debit card.
Here what I came across when I was looking for checking account.
Some banks & credit unions only check for bad checks using telecheck or check system
Some banks & credit unions only check credit for debit cards.
Other banks & credit unions check credit for both debit & a checking account.
Since, you want a debit card, I would go into the branch and ask to speak with someone. Then ask them. What is the difference in using a check than using a debit card? A lot of checks are now electronically processed. I would withdraw most of money on Monday if they are no help. You may have to keep it open for 180 business days. I would leave at least $1.00 plus any service charge or check order fees. You do not want to zero out your account. Just remember to deposit the service charge once a month (Including on the last month that you will be closing your account)

Question #3: I need details about credit cards & credit period. Do cards expire if
|
|
I had ruined my credit when I turned 18. Of course, I have since grown. Now I'm building my credit back up & I have a few questions. I'm not that knowledgable with credit. 1) Do credit cards expire if they're not used for a while? 2) If you want to cancel a card (that you have, but doesn't have an annual fee) do you have to call & cancel it or will it cancel itself after so long of no use? 3) Does it look bad to have several credit cards, even if you're only using 1 or 2 of them (as far as credit ratings, etc...go)? 4) I have aquired several credit cards recently. I started to get carried away, so I got a credit card, with a higher limit, to transfer most balances to. Now I only want to keep the others for emergency. 3 of them are major CC's, while the other are store cards, most I keep for emergency purchases of things I may need frm those certain stores (which offer discounts, etc w/their CC). I only owe on 2 right now. But I have a total of 11 active cards. Do I have 2 many? Help!
Best Answer
1 & 2. Major credit cards will not expire or cancel on their own. You need to call the company and cancel it. Some store cards may close after years of inactivity.
3. It not really the number of cards but the total available credit that you have. It's the ratio of available credit to your income. The higher the ratio the more hesitant companies will be to give you more credit. I keep my total limit no higher than 25% of my yearly income and then try to keep my balances below 10% of my limits.
4. 3 Major CC's is fine but the 8 store cards seem excessive. Do you need "emergency items" from 8 different stores? Store cards usually carry higher interest rates and therefore should be avoided.
I recommend checking your credit report from all 3 bureaus or at least Transunion. If your score is okay then don't worry. If it's bad then they will tell you why and give you ways to fix it which may include reducing you available revolving credit.
Also keep in mind that lengh of history also helps you score. So a credit card with 3 years of on time payments is better than a card with only one year. Try not to cancel the cards that you have had the longest.

Question #4: Credit Cards?
|
|
I have recently got a student credit card and I was wondering how does it work I mean if I spend money on my card and pay back some of it when the next month come do I get more money on my card for example like a cell phone every month you get the same amount of minutes or is it like you only have a certain amount of money on your card (credit limit) and whatever you pay off his how much you can spend the next month?
I understand that there will be a pre set credit limit I was wondering is that the only amount of money that you will be able to work with is that first amount of money they give you on your card. I know you can ask for a limit increase but basically my question is say for example if my credit limit is 200.00, and I end up spending 100.00, but when the bill is due I only pay the minimum of probably about 20.00, so will that make my balance for the next month only 120.00, or will my spending amount go back to 200.00 every month?
Best Answer
I have been working for the 3rd largest bank on the planet for 6 years in the credit card services division, a student card is in most cases just another marketing scheme to get business unless you put $ down first, it's more than likely sub or non prime, my advise is call the service # on the back of the card, and request a copy of the agreement. once you have received it and read it, call them back with any questions, if you don't get the answer you are looking for ask for a supervisor and ask them to explain it in simple terms. if you are trying to build your credit simply pay it in full every month.

Question #5: My small business is looking to accept credit cards ( credit card proc
|
|
I have a small restaurant business that makes around 300k a year. I am thinking about accepting credit cards because many customers want to use credit cards but we only accept cash. How much would the startup costs be for getting a credit card system in place? Also, how much roughly are monthly fees and how much are transaction fees (estimates are fine)? Are there any contracts when signing up for credit card processing? In all honesty, would it be best for me to stay cash only or would it be better (again in your opinion) for me to go with a credit card system.
One more thing, we are more of a seasonal business in that we get most of our customers (about 75% of our income) during May-August and in November-January. Other months the business is slow.
Best Answer
Finding a credit card processing company can be overwhelming due to different pricing structures and every one claiming to have the lowest rate.
The truth is your rate should be determined by your average size ticket and industry. If you have an average tiocket (sale) under $15 you can get a very low transaction fee about $0.15. Your percentage rate will be a little higher about 1.85% for debit and credit cards. That is the best program for you due to the transaction fee having a greater affect on low ticket transactions.
If your average ticket is above $15, you will pay a transaction fee between $0.20 -0.25 and a percentage rate of about 1.80% for credit and 1.40% for check cards.
The next thing you want to look out for is what you pay for key entered transactions and corporate cards. This is very important. Some place will charge a very low percentage for swiped personal check and credit cards, but charge over 4% for rewards and hand keyed cards. BE CAREFUL.
Now you need to know the difference between a pin based debit and a check card. A check card is charged different (see check card rates above) due to how it is processed. If a customer swipes a debit card and signs for it instead of entering their pin #, you will be charged a % and trans. fee. If they enter their pin #, you can get a flat rate of around $0.65 trans fee and no %. It is important to know your business, and decide wether or not your average ticket is high enough for a pin based transaction to be worth it or not. Usually a $40 or higher transaction amount is when you want to use that pin pad.
Now that you are an expert on pricing, LOL, we need to discuss equipment. In a resturaunt environment, having a tip option Im sure is very important. Be sure to get equipment that has a great tip feature, usually Omni 3750 or Hypercom T7 Plus or better.
Contrancts: Most every credit card processor has a 3 year contract agreement. Very common practice.

I hope this helps! Good Luck
