Do credit repair companies really work. has anyone had sucess with them.. improving credit by say 100 points or more? anyone have any solid information thanks for the info..but im looking for someone that has actually used one of these oompanies..1st hand knowledge

No one can repair your credit except you. Debt management companies can help alleviate some of the interest you pay on credit cards. I would suggest going online to get your free credit report from all 3 credit bureaus, check it over carefully, and report and discrepancies. Other than that, pay off your credit cards because the higher the balance you keep on them, the lower your credit score. Don't be fooled by those that say they can repair your credit.

The best way to raise your score is to pay more than your minimum balance on your credit cards. If you do not have a credit card you can get a secured card with a credit limit around $500.00 Use your card to pay some basic expenses and then pay it off every month. The minimum will be around $15.00, but if you pay off the balance you will gain points for paying more than the minimum and also for paying on time. Credit repair companies are a scam. If you go to the Federal Trade Commissions web site at http://www.ftc.gov they have a bunch of info about it. Everything that the repair company can do, you can do yourself. It simply involves writing letters and disputing entries on your report. Note that if the entry is "true and accurate" there may be no legal way to get it removed. The FTC site also gives you some hints on credit repair. You can also go to http://www.creditboards.com and get more help.

My husband and I are considering having a credit repair company clean up our credit. I have been working in this myself for about a yr and have increased our score by 50-60 points for each of us. The problem is there are certain things that just won't come off. Yes, the bad debt is legit from being young and dumb - but that a whole different topic in itself. I used to the credit repair for a mortgage company who charged up to $1500 bucks on and the truth is that there are no companies who can actually go in and change information on your credit report unless it is truly reported incorrectly. The credit repair the company offered simply assisted clients in erasing deragotory accounts that were reported incorrectly. Any company that wants your money up front without seeing any results first is a scam, as well as if they try and make you change your entire identity just to start your credit over again.

What can I do to repair my credit just like a credit repair company would do? I would like to know how to take negatives off of my account etc. What are the steps? I'm interested in repairing my debt muself.

anything they do you can do also. write letters to the companies and ask them to remove the accounts that are over 7 years old. (7 years from date of last activity-not 7 years sinced opened) they have to reply within a certain amount of days. no reply and they lose. you can also go to freecreditreport.com pay the fee to get your reports with scores. or go to annualcreditreport.com (no charge-everyone is entitled once per year for free report ) there is an option to dispute items. use that option to request removal. its what i did when i saw a negative account on my husbands report that was not his but his x wifes. he was not on the account when she opened it. it was immediately removed. no hassles at all. also any newer accounts can be negotiated to a lesser amount. do that to pay them off faster.
