An Allstate insurance customer hit my car. Do I have to accept their offer to repair it with used parts? Please don't answer this if you don't know anything and are just trying to score easy points. Also, it's a 1989 Celica, WAS in good condition. I got an estimate for $3089 from a shop. Allstate is offering $1220. They sent a second adjust out and this increased it from their original quote of $1069. He said "Don't worry about the "number", it doesn't matter." But if it's this near to being totalled, I want it totalled rather than drive and later try to sell, a vehicle that has been wrecked (while it was parked). Oh yes, and I didn't have full coverage, so I can't run it through my insurance company.

It kind of depends on the age of your car. If it is a relatively new car, you should be entitled to seek new parts. If it is a few years old, and they can find good used parts of the same age as your car, you probably have to accept them, as they are the same parts as the damaged ones. It becomes stickier with aftermarket parts, because sometimes the quality is suspect. Have you asked your insurance company about it? There may be different laws in different jurisdictions, but I do know here most repairs are done with used parts and that is permissable in our laws.

I'm going to be renting a vehicle from Thrifty car rental in Puerto Rico next week and I would like to just use my own insurance for the car. Does anyone know if Allstate covers driving in Puerto Rico? Thanks.

The way that most policies read is that it your auto insurance will cover you in the US, Canada, 50 miles into Mexico and US territories. It would best to check with your agent. I am going to give you the same advice I am give to all my insureds. BUY THEIR POLICY. I have had two insureds do damage to the rental. Both car rental companies went out and purchased a new vehicle, sold the damaged one and billed the customer for the difference. In one case it was 8,000. There was only 4000 in damage to the vehicle. Call Allstate and find out what they say. Their policy mya be different.

I'm thinking about changing insurance companies and see quite a bit of Allstate advertising that paints a very favorable picture, I wondering if anyone has real life experince in dealings with them

If you're just looking for the cheapest insurance company, forget. If you want a major company that has it's own claims people, fights for you, and is large enough to withstand paying claims for numerous catastrophes, then look at Allstate. Look at the number of insurance companies that went out of business after hurricane Andrew and will after Katrina. Depending on where you live, Allstate has just come out with a new auto insurance product that they are even looking to have patented. It allows you to design your own insurance policy with safe driver discounts, accident forgiveness, guaranteed renewability, etc.

i got into an accident with someone who has allstate. it was that person's fault and i have a witness. she was gonna pay cash for the damage but after i got my estimate she told me to talk to her insurance company b/c its about $4000. i filed a claim with her insurance company. i don't want to use mine b/c i have to pay a $1000 dedcutible, and i don't know if i can get it back. why should i if it wasn't my fault. i filed the claim on the 8th. i found out who handels the case on the 11th. she was suppose to call me asap to get a statement but she never did. so i waited. i left her a voicemail on the 17th to ask her to call me back but she did. on the 18th someone else recorded a statement for me and said he'd give it to her, he also said she would call me asap but she never did. i called again yesterday, someone said she would call me back in an hour but never did. today i called again, and she wasnt there again. im just wondering what should i do right now? thx for the answer...i have everything. i pretty much call them everyday and tell them shes not calling me back..they always say...i'll have have her call u...but she never called...maybe they r try to ignore me? b/c they are paying? im not talking about the girl i got into an accident with...im about her insurance company...allstate...the claim person isn't calling me back!!!!!

I love it when someone else attempts to speak for what someone will or won't do (call you in an hour, call you asap). Sounds to me the claims person is extremely swamped OR not in the office. Call and speak with her FPL, using those 3 letters exactly.....chances are the FPL has already been in the file and left many notations for the adjuster to call you asap to resolve the claim. Otherwise you'll have to go thru your insurance and your insurance will subrogate against Allstate.
