Hi, Once in a while, my stocks do not show up in messenger. I kill the yahoo messenger and restart it, all my configured portfolios show up fine. Anybody know a solution for this? Thanks

I suggest a fresh install of Yahoo! Messenger. First, a fresh install will ensure you have the latest build of Yahoo! Messenger. Also, a reinstall will write over any Messenger files that may have become corrupt and causing this disappearing stock issue. There are two versions of Yahoo! Messenger available. Yahoo! just launched Yahoo! Messenger version 8.0, which includes plug-ins, integration of Yahoo! 360, Soundtrack, and Soundboard. For version 8, just go to http://messenger.yahoo.com, click on the ?Get it Now? button, and follow the installation process. If you are not ready for the beta, just click on the ?Get version 7.5? link located directly under the ?Get it Now? button to get the current version, version 7.5.

Trying to get the Yahoo stock screener to return stocks that are valued within 20% of their 52-week low. The way it appears it would be done seems to exclude stocks that actually dip below their previous 52 week low.

It appears as though you will have to run 2 screens. One for the upside and one for the downside.

Yahoo says it will alert you if the stock price moves up or down by 5 percent, but it does not say (nor does the FAQ) whether it has to move 5% in the trading day, the week, or even ever since the stock has been issued...geez

General rules of thumb: a) No "investments" until 3 months of income are tied into CD/bonds i.e. can't lose. b) Invest no more than you can afford to lose. c) If you don't invest through a brokerage which will hold your stock "in stree", then you have to take the stock to a brokerage and have if verified - all for a fee, before you can sell it. d) Invest in what you know if you can. e) Consider mutual funds which spread your risk around. The stock information site for Yahoo will even tell you which mutual funds have Yahoo stock. f) Are you looking for growth, dividends, stability in volatile markets?

Hi, When I see the volume on a Yahoo Finance stock chart, I always wonder who bought / sold all those stocks! Was it an institutional investor or bunch of individuals? Is there a way to find this information? Thanks in advance!

You bet there is... The first place to check it for insider sales. These are the CFOs and CEOs, etc that have to report any stock transactions. Not too important, but if the CFO is selling, watchout below... http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/invsub/ insider/trans.asp?Symbol=hon The next place to check is institutional holdings... http://moneycentral.msn.com/ownership? Symbol=hon' Here you can see what major institutions are holding and/or selling or buying from quarter to quarter. Also be sure to check the drop down menu for mutual fund holdings and 5% holdings. As for the rest of the transactions from investors like you and me, that would be way more information than needed. Just remember, for every buyer, there must be a seller. ---
