QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question #1: what do I have to do get my tax rebate check?

I get ssi plus I am married but my husband doesn't work so what do need to do in order to get my tax rebate check. some say you have file a tax return but my husband says you don't have to do nothing about it.

Best Answer

If you do not file a tax return...you will not get a rebate. That has been made very clear. As to whether you qualify or not, that I can't say. If they took any taxes out of your SSI, or if your husband had taxes taken from his unemployment, you probably qualify.

Question #2: If I am getting a tax refund from 2007 tax, will I still get the tax r

I filed my 2007 taxes and am recieving a tax refund. Will we recieve the tax rebate? There is myself, my hubby and 5 kids. We made around $24,000 last year. Do we qualify for the rebate check? And how much will we be getting if we do qualify?

Best Answer

Yes, you qualify. Depending on the age of the kids, you'll get $2100. Assuming you paid less than $600 in 2007 Federal Income Tax, you will receive $600 for the two of you and $1500 for the five kids if they are under the age of 17. BUT BE CAREFUL SPENDING THE MONEY. While the rebate depends on your 2007 income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the proposed plan, in 2008, taxes would be cut from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers. It's like a one time tax cut for 2008, but you get the rebate now instead of waiting to file your 2008 taxes. Because this is an advance payment on your 2008 taxes, your refund next year could be more (or less!) depending on your 2008 income.

Question #3: Will my tax rebate be direct deposited or will i get a paper check?

I had my tax refund direct deposited into my bank account but I had to amend my return and then they sent me an additional check in the mail from what i messed up on the first time. So since i amended it and got a paper check will my tax rebate check be mailed or direct deposited?

Best Answer

I had to amend my taxes this year too... I had my original 1040-A direct deposited but When I sent in my 1040-X amended return they sent me a check... I just received my stimulus check by mail yesterday... So your check will be mailed to ya... sorry, for the bad news... But I asked the same question 2 weeks ago and someone told me it would still be DD... I had my hopes up and it never went in... Good luck to ya..

Question #4: How do I return my tax rebate check?

Because myself or my children will have to pay this back with interest at some point (it increases our national debt by $250 billion), I would like to return my tax rebate check instead of spending it. Anyone know how to return it or where to send it back to?

Best Answer

You don't have to pay back the rebate. It's truly FREE money for you. If you wish to pay it back to the government, cash it and send a check to the Bureau of the Public Debt. Here's the FAQ from their website: Q. How do you make a contribution to reduce the debt? A. Make your check payable to the Bureau of the Public Debt, and in the memo section, notate that it is a Gift to reduce the Debt Held by the Public. Mail your check to: Attn Dept G Bureau Of the Public Debt P. O. Box 2188 Parkersburg, WV 26106-2188 On the other hand, you can help to finance the Public Debt and keep the money on the home front by investing in various Treasury Securities such as US Savings Bonds.

Question #5: Who is eligible for the tax rebate check?

I am currently a student in college, but I work during breaks from school (summer and Christmas breaks). I get pretty much all my taxes back, but my parents claim me as a dependent on their taxes. Will I still get the tax rebate check because I am single and a tax payer?

Best Answer

If your parents claim you as a dependent, you will be ineligible for the rebate, but you may still benefit under the plan. While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, taxes would be cut in 2008 from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers. So if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009.
